VGM Translations is our multilingual scientific-technical translation service division and it has an in-house staff of professional translators with advanced degrees in biology, chemistry, medicine and engineering with proven translation experience. Points 3.2.2. and 3.2.3. of Standard EN 150389 define the professional competence of translators, revisers and proofreaders:
- Professional Competence of Translators: the ability to translate texts to the required level.
Linguistic and textual competence in the source language and the target language: the ability to understand and master both languages, using text type conventions for a wide a range of standard-language and specialised texts as possible.
- Research competence, information acquisition and processing: the ability to efficiently acquire the additional linguistic and specialised knowledge necessary to understand the source text and to produce the target text.
- Cultural competence: the ability to make use of information on the local, behavioral standards and value systems that characterize the source and target cultures.
- Technical competence: the abilities and skills required for the professional preparation and production of translations.
